Welcome to the U.S.S. Vela!

In Character Description

While two decades after the Dominion War, the effects can still be felt in the Federation. Starfleet has become stretched thin due to rebuilding after the war and the inevitable expansion due to exploration. No longer can the fleet manage all the needs of their own space. To alleviate the strain, Starfleet started contracting with merchant vessel companies for the mundane missions. These vessels took the simple missions, the profitable missions, and sometimes the shady missions.

The Patthams Corporation is one of these, having contracted for the region of space where Klingon, Romulan, and Federation spaces collide. With a small fleet of various vessels, the company holds a monopoly on ensuring the health and commerce of the area, and the profits.

The M.V. Vela is an acquired former Centaur Class Starfleet Vessel. With minor modifications, she has become a multi-role vessel for the company, performing medical aid, ship tows and maintenance, cargo and passenger runs, and anything else the company deems necessary. These may include the occasional shady mission.

Out of Character Information

A repurposed frigate, the Vela now works as a merchant vessel. With a multi-purpose role, she now fills a variety of missions. While seemingly mundane missions, each brings potential for deep story telling and character development. The vessel is the modern day equivalent if Towboat US in some ways.

The sim is a purposely designed slow pace sim. With merchant crew structure, the small crew and few departments lend towards character exploration and involved mission development. In order to promote the small feel and interconnectedness of the crew, each player has two main characters to allow them the diversity in building the storyline. We are looking to create the entire ship experience.

Tarik sat on the edge of the bed, tricorder in hand. To one side, a leather satchel lay open, his “grab bag” of medical supplies. To the other, a young girl, almost six years old. Her name was Etan.

She was not unfamiliar to him. In fact, Tarik had been…
